Parent Code of Conduct & Annual Consents

1. General Principles of Conduct

Living School is committed to a safe and supportive environment for students, staff, and families. Our community relies on mutual respect and professional boundaries.

  • Communication: Parents must use courteous and acceptable language in all interactions, including social media.

  • Prohibited Behaviour: Profane, insulting, harassing, threatening, or aggressive language will not be tolerated.

  • Ethical Standards: Parents are expected to act in the best interests of the school community and refrain from malicious or judgmental gossip.

  • Respect for Diversity: We value the rights and religious beliefs of all families. Harassment, discrimination, or vilification is strictly prohibited.

2. On-Site Safety & Visiting Procedures

To comply with NSW health and safety regulations, all visitors must follow these protocols:

  • Reception & Sign-In: All visitors must sign the Visitors’ Register at Reception during school hours to ensure a record exists for emergency musters.

  • Staff Instructions: In the event of an emergency or drill on school grounds, excursions, or camps, parents must follow all staff directions immediately.

  • Learning Sanctuary: Parents may not distract or interrupt a teacher during classroom instruction.

  • Classroom Authority: Teachers may ask a parent to leave a learning area if their presence is distracting to students or if parental assistance is not required at that time.

  • Behaviour Management: Parents must not discipline or approach a child who is not their own. Any behavioural or bullying concerns must be raised directly with a staff member.

3. Communication Channels & Boundaries

To manage staff workload and ensure student focus, please observe the following:

  • School-Day Contact: All communication with teachers during the day is coordinated through the School Secretary.

  • Response Times: Staff are not required to respond to emails instantaneously. Standard response time is two working days.

  • After-Hours Policy: Staff are not expected to respond to non-emergency communication outside of normal working hours or during school holidays.

  • Privacy: Parent email addresses are for school-related matters only. Do not use parent contact lists for unsolicited communication or "spam".

  • Mobile Phones: Students must hand in phones before school starts. If you need to reach your child urgently, please call the Office at (02) 5632 1218.

5. Governance & Complaints

  • The Board (Guardians of Purpose): Correspondence to the Board should be sent to the school email address. It will be discussed at the next constituted meeting.

  • Complaint Resolution: Issues must be raised through the correct channels as outlined in the School’s Complaints Protocol.

  • Breaches of the Code: The Conductor (or delegate) will investigate reported breaches. Consequences may include a formal warning, a required apology, or a trespass notice for unacceptable on-site behaviour.

6. Media and photos

As part of school life, we love to capture and share special moments, from classroom activities and school events to celebrations and achievements. By default, we will include your child in photos and videos that celebrate school life, and your child may appear in school-related publications or media. If you would prefer for your child not to be included in any photos , video or media, please email back to let us know.

Please note that opting out means your child will be excluded from all media, including newsletters, yearbooks, group images and any other visual school communications, to align with your wishes.

Acceptance of Terms

I have read the 2026 Parent Code of Conduct and the Annual Consents. I understand that compliance with these policies is a condition of my child's continued enrolment at Living School.
